Burgundy-Franche-Compté

The "Romanesque Road" program in Southern Burgundy aims at connecting about one hundred 11th and 12th century churches and chapels that are wholly or partially Romanesque.

Carinthia

Carinthia is Austria's Romanesque heart: a region rich in cathedrals, castles, monasteries and fortresses surrounded by a scenic landscape and built in strategically important locations in order to preserve the inhabitants' deep religious faith.

Castile and León

Castile and León boasts to possessing over 2000 monuments approximately. The richness of its buildings is a direct result of the history of the territory, where the kingdoms of León and Castile reigned. Moreover, the pilgrimage route to Compostela helped to mold the area.

Central Slovakia

Although Slovakia has relatively few Romanesque buildings, including almost no completely preserved ones, there are three of very high (cultural-)historical importance, in which the Romanesque proportions play a major role in their appearance. These three outstanding Romanesque monuments are part of the TRANSROMANIA network.

Galicia

The Romanesque architecture in Galicia is sprinkled with special influences both from architectural styles outside the Iberian Peninsula via Italy and France and from traditional architectural patterns within the peninsula.

Lombardy: Province of Pavia

Alleys, streets, monuments, buildings: Pavia offers many paths to the visitor who arrives in town for the first time. Through its squares, avenues and covered bridge one can read Pavia's history: its grandeur is reflected in the town of today.

Lower-Saxony: Braunschweiger Land

The beautiful small town with its 17 communities is a city with a relaxing atmosphere and is an alluring destination for visitors. There is plenty to see and to explore: first and foremost the famous Romanesque cathedral, founded by the Roman Emperor Lothar III. Also historical mechanical musical instruments, richly adorned half-timbered buildings and colorful houses from many eras with surprising details.

Piedmont: Province of Asti

Located in the hilly landcape of Asti and at the foot of Monferrato the Abbey of Vezzolano fascinates its guests with its walls that were built of alternating layers of sandstone and brick, a choir screen that is abound in figures and its legendary foundation.

Saxony-Anhalt

As the heartland of German and European history, Saxony-Anhalt offers a host of monuments from the Middle Ages that are worth visiting. The outstanding skills and abilities of the master builders from the Romanesque era are particularly reflected along the "Romanesque Road" running through Saxony-Anhalt in a northern and a southern route.

Sousa, Douro and Tâmega

In the land of the valleys of Tâmega and Sousa, in the heart of the North of Portugal, stands an important architectural heritage of Romanesque origin. This exceptional legacy is seen in 58 monuments that carry legends and stories born with the foundation of the Nationality and which witness the significant role that this territory formerly played in the history of the nobility and religious orders in Portugal.

South-West Serbia
