The Romanesque Road in Saxony-Anhalt belongs to Germany's most popular holiday routes and has been a part of the European Cultural Route TRANSROMANICA since 2003.

Linking 80 buildings in 65 places the Romanesque Road runs through Saxony-Anhalt in the shape of an "eight". The provincial capital Magdeburg is the intersection point of the northern and southern route and thus a good starting point for discovery tours.

In 1993, the Romanesque Road was inaugurated by the then Federal Presindent Richard von Weizsäcker at the Monastery of Our Lady in Magdeburg . Since that day, the holiday route has stongly developed: Being completely signposted, with information plates, partly equipped with audio guides and documented in numerous travel guides the route hosts approximately 1.6 million guests per year.

Various special tours, exhibitions, celebrations and concerts attract various visitors to the Romanesque monuments throughout the year.

In the anniversary year 2013, there is a particular theme: "Within 80 days around the Romanesque Road". Therefore, one special day is dedicated to every building or monument. On that day, "hidden treasures and highlights along the Romanesque Road" are presented to the visitors.
