TRANSROMANICA – Journey of Sound

The TRANSROMANICA Carinthia network presents its first TRANSROMANICA – Journey of Sound in August 2016. Three concerts of medieval music will take their visitors on a journey of discovery through the Romanesque art and introduce them to the characteristics of this cultural heritage.

Many things, that seem to be typically “medieval” nowadays, date back to the Romanesque period. Just think of massive stone castles, knighthood – and of course – Minnesang! This kind of love poetry – according to the model of the Southern French Troubadours – had been practiced by men in the courtly environment since the middle of the 12th century. During their presentation the singers were usually accompanied by rhythm, bowed and wind instruments.

The musicians of “Harmonia Variabilis” master these typical, medieval instruments. At their concerts in Millstatt, Maria Wörth and Friesach the audience will experience a number of different flutes, string and rhythm instruments in synergy with the human voice. Also, medieval life and Romanesque culture will be integrated in the concerts.
